Hut

<—– Click Here for the Hut Schedule     The ski club lodge is located at Pleasant Mountain. The Facility is available to rent outside of ski season. During ski season the hut is used by members who have paid their dues and completed their time commitments at the ski sale and a hut work party. Volunteer hutmasters will have the lodge open from  6:30pm Friday night through 5:00pm Sunday. There may be exceptions due to hutmaster availability, long holiday weekends, or school vacation weeks.  Please check the hut schedule.

The HutThe heart and soul of the DESC is our lodge at the base of the Pleasant Mountain ski area. It is believed the lodge is a success because it operates as a working community. Following the community rules is an important part of being  a member of the DESC club. The hutmaster in charge for the upcoming weekend will keep the registration book. Hutmasters shall be present and on duty when the lodge is in use and uphold the club rules. Their authority will be supported by the Down East Ski Club.

Please store skis, snowboards, and poles outside on ski racks, in the shed, or in your vehicle – do not lean them against the building. Hang coats in the racks available. Boots, gear bags, mittens, goggles, helmets go into the boot room in the basement. Items should not be left on benches, chairs or couches. (Overflow bags and boots may go in playroom).

Cubbies are for your nonperishable foods; refrigerators are available for perishables and contain hut condiments such ketchup, mayo, and mustard. Please make sure to label ALL food that goes into the refrigerators – unmarked food and beverage is considered available for member consumption! Any food left on Sunday night will be tossed or redistributed.

The hut kitchen has hot cocoa, coffee, spices, pots, dishes and silverware for member use. All dishes need to be washed, dried, and put away. Please wipe down countertops, tables, stove, and microwaves after each use.

  • Overnight reservations will be taken by our volunteer hutmasters until Wednesday evening for the upcoming weekend. Priority is given to members and their families over non-members. Reservations for guests can be confirmed Wednesday night, room permitting. Members who have stayed over the previous week should wait until Tuesday before registering for the upcoming weekend. Fees are due and will be collected by the on duty hutmaster on Saturday evening. When the lodge is open during holiday breaks fees will be collected at the convenience of the hutmaster on duty.
  • Saturday night supper is a community meal organized by the hutmaster on duty for the weekend. Supper reservations should be made by Wednesday night, allowing hutmasters to shop accordingly.  Many hands make light work! Participation in in meal preparation and clean-up is encouraged and appreciated! Fees are listed on the Hut Roster Page. Those making reservations after Thursday night may be requested to supply their own Saturday meal. Members making their own meal should check with the hutmaster about when the kitchen will be available to them. Dinner reservations for Saturday night can be made even if people are not planning on sleeping over. Cancellation of supper reservations must be made by Thursday at 5pm or the member will be responsible for supper fees.
  • Hutmasters on duty will make sleeping assignments; please check with them before storing your overnight gear.   The assigned hutmaster and or responsible representative will sleep on the first floor. Approval for use of any sleeping area other than the dorms , ie sofas, and sofa beds, are at the discretion of the hutmaster on duty and will be generally limited to overflow or medical needs. Preferably any special requests will be made when a member makes a reservation. Any member granted permission to sleep on the first floor or playroom must understand that they can not plan on sofas being available to them until after 11pm and sleeping bags should be put away by 7:00am.
  • Everyone staying overnight will be in the lodge no later than midnight. The hutmaster is responsible for the security of the building and guests. Names of all overnight guests need to be entered into the hut log book.
  • Overnight bags should be stored near your bunk. All bags and accessories should be off the floor by noon on Sunday, to allow members to clean. No food is allowed in the upstairs bunk area.
  • Keeping the lodge clean is the responsibility of all – both day day and overnight users. All members using the lodge are expected to participate in community chores: bringing in wood, washing dishes, sweeping floors etc. There is a list of things that needs to be done for clean-up on the kitchen counter on Sunday afternoons for final clean up. Please take a look and lend a hand.
  • Children should not be in the lodge unattended. If leaving your child in the care of another member, please make an effort to notify the Hutmaster on duty. Children and guests should know who the Hutmasters are, so that if special situations arise, they know who they can go to if they need help or have questions. Children are not to play in the upstairs bunk area, boot room, bathrooms or basement hallways.
