How to join

Club meetings are held monthly to plan and organize events, and are run according to Robert’s Rule of Order. Meetings are held at our lodge at Pleasant Mountain in January, February, and March on the Saturday following the 2nd Thursday of each month. The meeting is at 6pm followed by a pot luck supper. In September, October, and November the meetings are at 7 pm on the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Westbrook community Center   426 Bridge St, Westbrook, ME 04092.

The December meeting is a Holiday Party at a location and time TBA. The Annual Banquet is usually held at the end of the ski season at our lodge at Pleasant Mountain. Summer “meetings” are usually activities that could be hiking, camping, brewery tours, sunset cruise, etc. 

MEMBERSHIP PROCESS FOR PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS

The Down East Ski Club (DESC) is inclusive and welcoming. The DESC wants a prospective member to learn about the DESC, our history and culture, and expectations for membership. Current DESC members want to get to know a prospective member, too.

*Attend a meeting – You will have the opportunity to meet members and be introduced at the meeting.

*Fill out an application form and give it to the Membership Chair or designee with the non-refundable application fee. A background check may be done.

* Go to the Down East Ski Club website www.downeastskiclub.com and read the Bylaws and Hut Guidelines  in the Members Only section of the website. The login information will be given to the Prospective member upon receipt of the application form and fee. Let the membership chair know, if you have any questions regarding the Bylaws and Hut Guidelines and let him/her know that you have read and understand them.

*Attend and participate in DESC meetings/activities/events. In the fall help with the Lodge clean up and ski sale. During the ski season help with the Employee Appreciation Party and other events. Also, during ski season, stop by and stay at the Lodge at member rates.

*At the December or April Meeting Prospective members will be re-introduced and asked to say a few words at the meeting where he/she/they will be voted upon. The Prospective Member will be excused from the meeting briefly so the membership can vote.

*Upon an affirmative vote of the majority of club members present, the New Member will be officially welcomed into the DESC and presented with a membership pin. The New Member must submit prorated dues to the Membership chair within two weeks of their affirmative vote.
